CJHS boys end on winning note

Centre High School volleyball team, with a record of 12-10 in the regular season, advanced to the semi-finals Oct. 19 at the regional tournament at CHS by defeating sixth-seeded Burlingame (2-15) in two games 25-19 and 15-16. Centre was seeded third.

They were defeated by second-seed White City (20-5) in two games, 17-25 and 12-25, to end the season with a final record of 15-12.

White City defeated top-seed Hope (24-4) to win the tournament.

In the first game against Burlingame, Centre girls were 23-24 in serving and added 12 rally points. Jill Fenske and Alyssa Luna were credited with four service points each, followed by Brianne Stahlecker three, and Kylie Burhoop and Jackie Klenda, one each.

In game two, the girls were 22-24 from the service line, and eight rally points were tallied. Klenda scored 10 service points, Luna, Fenske, and Burhoop three each, and Stahlecker one.

For the match, Stahlecker set the ball 26-27, seven resulting in a kill. Luna was 7-8, one for a kill.

Klenda aced the ball three times, Luna and Burhoop two each, and Stahlecker and Fenske one each.

Klenda and Alisha Barney were top hitters with 15 spikes each. Klenda provided six kills, Barney five. Other hitters were Fenske 6-7, three kills, and Luna 2-2, one kill, and one block.

Stahlecker, 16-16, and Luna, 10-10, were perfect setters in the two games with White City.

In game one, the girls kept up with the Lady Huskies for a big part of the game, but lost momentum toward the end to lose 25-17.

Luna was credited with three service points, Klenda added two. Rally points produced the remaining 12 points. Serving was 15-18.

Game two went badly from the start. The girls picked up their play toward the end but were defeated 25-12.

Burhoop served for a score two times, Klenda once, and Teaira Turner once. Eight rally points were added. Team serving was 11-12.

Burhoop, Klenda, and Luna each aced the ball one time during the match. Fenske was 11-11 as a hitter and contributed one kill. Barney completed 10 of 11 spike attempts, one kill, and two blocks.

Other hitters were Klenda 6-8, four kills; Gutsch 5-8, one kill, four blocks; and Luna 0-1, and one block.

Although the girls failed to advance to sub-state, they did have a winning season, 15-12, and improved considerably over the previous year's record of 9-15.
