CJHS boys lose at Manhattan

Centre Junior High Cougars were defeated Oct. 7 at Luckey of Manhattan, 40-16.

Luckey jumped to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter, and added two touchdowns and four extra points in the second.

The Cougars' first touchdown came in the second quarter on a 38-yard run by James Weber after a pass from Konley Harding. The PAT failed, and Centre trailed 24-6 at halftime.

The Cougars' second touchdown was almost a carbon copy of the first as Weber connected on a pass from Harding and ran 37 yards to the end zone. Alex Hajek ran for the extra points.

Luckey added 16 points in the third quarter, extending their lead to 40-14. The Cougars kept them out of the end zone in the fourth quarter.

Centre earned a safety when Weber was sacked in the end zone, making the final score Luckey 40, Centre 16.

The Cougars carried the ball 24 times for 31 yards. Weber was leading rusher, with eight carries for 15 yards. Hajek carried the ball five times for four yards and Josh Olsen carried four times for 12 yards. Harding made no gains on seven carries.

Harding threw eight completed passes of 17 attempts for a 137-yard gain. He also had one interception.

Weber advanced for 88 yards on three receptions, and Zac Antoszyk advanced 34 yards in three receptions. Josh Olsen gained 13 yards and Hajek two on one reception each.
