CJHS eighth grade boys place second at Goesel

The eighth grade boys stood out among Centre Junior High track teams April 30 at the Goessel Invitational. They finished in second place after Bennington. Twelve schools were represented.

A.J. Temel placed first in high jump with a jump of five feet, four inches. He placed second in the 1600-meter run with a time of five minutes, 25.94 seconds.

Tanner Brunner finished first in the 800m run with a time of 2:25.56 and second in triple jump at 33-7.

Brian Burhoop placed second in discus with a throw of 112 feet.

Among seventh grade boys, Trevor Hageberg finished second in discus with a throw of 84-9.

The only Centre girl to place in the top two was seventh grader Jessica Turley, who placed first in the 75m hurdles with a time of 13.84 seconds.

Hope track meet

The teams participated Thursday in a Hope meet held at Abilene. No team statistics were made available, but Centre had many first and second place finishes.

On the boys' team, first-place finishers included Jessie Kopietz in the 200m run, Brunner in the 800m run, Kerbs in the 1800m run, and Temel in high jump.

The 800m relay team comprised of Kerbs, Brunner, Burhoop, and Temel also placed first. The same team finished second in an 1800m relay.

Also finishing in second place were Burhoop in discus, Brunner in long jump, Kerbs in the 200m run, Temel in the 1800m run, Jacob Jirak in high jump, and Kopietz in the 100m run.

The 400m relay team of Jirak, Cole Svoboda, Kopietz, and Casey Kristek finished second.

In girls' competition, Jessica Turley won the 75m hurdles and Theo Kassebaum won long jump.

Kassebaum finished second in the 75m hurdles. Other second-place finishes included Turley in the 400m run, Allison Shields in triple jump, and Ripley Howard in high jump.
