CJHS football team ends season with 6-1 record

Centre Junior High Cougars ended the season with an easy win, 73-0, Oct. 16 at Prairie Heights.

Centre's most prolific quarter was the first one. They scored 35 points. Tanner Brunner scored four touchdowns, one on a 55-yard kick return, one a 35-yard punt return, and two more on 4-yard and 35-yard runs.

Mikael Antoszyk also scored a touchdown in the first quarter, with a 5-yard run. Rustyn Kerbs, Brian Burhoop, Brunner, and Benjamin Wirtz added two-point conversions.

Kerbs ran 13 yards and Shane Methvin received a 24-yard pass from Burhoop in the second quarter to add 12 points. Jesse Kopietz completed a PAT on a pass from Brian Burhoop.

In the third quarter, Kerbs and Antoszyk each scored a touchdown. Burhoop added two extra points on a pass from A.J. Temel.

Antoszyk ran 39 yards for the first touchdown of the fourth quarter. As time ran out, Casey Kristek ran 74 yards to cross the goal line and score another six points. There was no PAT.

Centre had 21 carries for 210 yards. Prairie Heights had 24 carries for 61 yards.

Burhoop received two passes for 50 yards. Methvin received one pass for 24 yards and Antoszyk one for 26.

Kristek was leading rusher with two carries for 74 yards. Antoszyk rushed for 52 yards and Brunner for 39. Six other Cougars also carried the ball for yardage on the ground.

Tackles (assisted-unassisted) were: Antoszyk 1-4, Cole Svoboda 2-5 plus one fumble recovery, Burhoop 0-6 plus two fumble recoveries, Methvin 0-7 plus one fumble recovery, Michael Beeler 0-3, Kopietz 2-4, Kerbs 1-4, Brunner 2-2, Kristek 1-2, Jacob Jirak 0-7, Wirtz 0-3, A.J. Temel 1-0, Brandon Temel 0-2, Kordell Harding 1-1.
