CJHS football team wins first game

The Centre Junior High Cougars skunked Marquette, 42-0, in the season opener Thursday on the road.

Tanner Brunner scored the first two touchdowns on short runs. Cole Svoboda scored the PAT on the second touchdown on a pass from A.J. Temel.

Rustyn Kerbs caught a 14-yard pass from Temel to score again, and Temel ran for the extra points. Kerbs scored again before the half, and Temel completed the PAT, making the score 22-0.

In the second half, Kerbs crossed the goal line twice, once on a 10-yard run, and again on a 42-yard run, to add 12 points. Brunner ran for the extra points after the last touchdown, resulting in a final score of 42-0.

Centre carried the ball 22 times for 209 yards. Marquette had 26 carries for 56 yards.

Other members of the team are Christopher Craft, Casey Kristek, Ben Baker, Trevor Hageberg, Shane Methvin, David Dotson, and Brandon Temel. The team is coached by Stan Wiles.
