CJHS game dedicated to memory of Lois Harding

The last home game of the season Thursday for the Centre Junior High football team was dedicated to the memory of Lois Harding.

Harding died this summer after a lengthy fight against cancer. Her son, Konley, an eighth grader, is a member of the team. He has two younger siblings, Kordell and Kendall. The boys live with their father, Kelsey, in the Diamond Springs community.

Donations totaling $97.43 were collected and sent to the American Cancer Society for research.

The team defeated White City, 44-20, to advance to 3-3.

Centre scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, on eight-yard and five-yard runs by Ben Krause. Krause ran for the extra points after the second touchdown, and the score was 14-6 at the end of the quarter.

Both teams added six points in the second quarter, putting Centre up by eight, 20-12, at halftime. Krause scored his third touchdown on a 20-yard run.

Centre increased its lead by 12 points, 32-12, in the third quarter, as James Weber crossed the goal line on a seven-yard run, and Josh Olsen scored on a five-yard run. The PATs failed. White City did not score.

In the fourth quarter, White City scored one touchdown and two conversion points. Centre scored twice, once on an 11-yard run by Weber, again on a six-yard run by Olsen. The PATs failed, resulting in a final score of 44-20.

The Cougars carried the ball 40 times for 255 yards compared to 23 carries for 132 yards by White City. Centre gained 43 yards in the air compared to six by White City.

Krause was leading rusher with 24 carries for 173 yards, followed by Weber with six carries for 45 yards. Others were Olsen 6-21, Alex Hajek 3-15, and Harding 1-1.

Krause threw six passes, two which were completed for 37 yards. Harding completed one of two for six yards. Olsen was leading receiver at 2-37. Ben Krause was 1-6.

Defensive stats were not available.
