CJHS girls defeat Hope for third in league

The Centre Junior High Lady Cougars came away from the 2007 league tournament in third place.

They were defeated by Wakefield Thursday in the semifinals at Centre High School but defeated Hope Saturday at Hope for third place.

It was a hard-fought contest. After tying 4-4 at the end of one quarter on field goals by D.J. Chavers and Allison Shields, Centre hit a slump, and Hope led 10-6 at halftime.

Things were reversed in the third quarter as Howard scored seven points and Shields two compared to a total of two by Hope. Centre led, 15-12.

The Lady Lions outscored the Lady Cougars 7-6 in the final quarter, but Centre came away with a 21-19 victory.

Howard scored a total of nine points, followed by Chavers and Shields with six points each.

The team ended the season with a record of 7-5.
