CJHS varsity teams lose to Solomon

Centre Junior High School basketball teams played Solomon Thursday at home.

The boys' varsity took a beating, losing 47-27.

They fell behind 9-17 in the first quarter and were outscored 10-8 in the next two.

The team's only points in the fourth quarter came from a field goal by Alex Hajek.

Brian Burhoop led the Cougars' scoring with 10 points. A.J. Temel and Trevor Troutt scored five points each, Jared Diepenbrock three, and Zach Antoszyk and Hajek two each.

The boys' junior varsity was the only team to come away with a win. They defeated Solomon by one point, 18-17.

They scored only four points in the first half to trail 4-11, but outscored Solomon 14-6 in the second half for the win.

Tyler Klenda and Tanner Brunner scored four points each, Benjamin Wirtz three, Rustyn Kerbs, Heath Hill, and Jacob Jirak two each, and Jacob Jennings, one.

The girls' varsity was defeated 24-19. After a tied first quarter, Solomon outscored Centre 10-4 in the second to lead 16-10. Centre outscored Solomon 9-8 in the second half but lost by five points.

Shelby Deines led scoring with nine points. Carlye Simons added four, and Sammie Seifert, Ripley Howard, and Josie Peterson, two each.

Points were scarce in the girls' junior varsity 15-13 loss. Centre's six points in the fourth quarter was the largest quarterly total of the game.

Howard scored five points, Amanda Floyd four, Dallas Rosenow two, and Allison Shields and Tori Schill one each.
