CJHS wins final two games of the season

The Centre Junior High Cougars had a fun time Thursday at White City as they swamped the Huskies, 65-12. They defeated Prairie Heights, 42-20, Monday, in the final game of the season.

At White City, the Cougars scored three touchdowns in each of the first three quarters and one in the fourth.

First quarter scores came on a 28-yard pass from Tanner Brunner to Jared Diepenbrock, a 19-yard pass from A.J. Temel to Jacob Jennings, and a two-yard run by Casey Kristek. The Cougars held White City scoreless.

During the second quarter, Brunner completed a 33-yard touchdown run, Rustyn Kerbs scored on a 26-yard run, and Jennings scored on an eight-yard pass from Temel. One two-point conversion came on a pass from Temel to Diepenbrock.

White City scored one touchdown in the second quarter. Centre led, 38-6, at halftime.

Temel completed a 68-yard kick return to score the first touchdown of the third quarter. Trevor Troutt ran for the extra points. Cole Svoboda scored on a 51-yard run and Diepenbrock caught a pass from Temel for the PAT. As time ran out, Kristek ran 38 yards for another touchdown. The PAT failed.

White City added six points in the quarter.

The final score of the game came with just over a minute remaining on a 12-yard run by Brian Burhoop. Tyler Klenda ran for the two-point conversion.

The team rushed for 289 yards and passed for 55. White City rushed for 72 yards, passed for two yards, and threw two interceptions.

Centre vs. Prairie Heights

In the game with Prairie Heights, Centre's first-quarter touchdowns came on a one-yard run by Temel and an 18-yard run by Brian Burhoop. Stephen Kaiser ran for a two-point conversion. Heights scored one touchdown, and the quarter ended with Centre ahead, 14-6.

Both teams scored eight points in the third quarter. Temel ran two yards to score, and Diepenbrock ran for the extra points.

The Cougars surged ahead in the third quarter, scoring three touchdowns for 20 points compared to eight points by Heights.

Touchdowns came on a six-yard run by Diepenbrock, a 10-yard pass from Temel to Jennings, and a one-yard run by Hajek. Jennings scored a two-point conversion on a pass from Temel.

Neither team scored in the fourth quarter, resulting in a final score of 42-20.

Centre gained 291 yards rushing in 47 carries and 50 yards in the air on three receptions.

Brunner was leading rusher, with 12 carries for 69 yards. He also led defensively with seven unassisted and four assisted tackled.
