Class reunions planned for Old Settlers' Day

Representatives are asked to supply Marion High School class reunion information to the newspaper by Sept. 15 to get schedules published in the issue prior to Old Settlers' Day.

Class of 1939

Marion High School class of 1939 will meet for the 65th reunion during Old Settlers' Day weekend.

Class members and their guests are asked to meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at McGillicuddy's Restaurant for homemade fruit and nut breads and coffee.

Classmates will decorate a trolley with banners then board the trolley for the ride to Jex Addition for the start of the parade.

Following the parade the group will return to McGillicuddy's for lunch and a short program.

The class will ride the trolley to Central Park to participate in the afternoon program at 2:30 p.m.

Committee members are Peggy Thies, Ruth Jo Penner, Janet Keazer, and Lois Patton.

Class of 1949

MHS class of 1949 will observe its 55th reunion Saturday by riding in the Old Settlers' Day parade and attending the lunch in Central Park.

A social hour will begin at 5 p.m. at Marion VFW Post, followed by dinner.

Class of 1954

The class of 1954 will begin the weekend reunion with a barbecue and social time Friday evening at the home of Joe and Rozelle Sklenar.

The group will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Activity Center for donuts and coffee and to decorate the tram for the annual parade.

They will ride through the parade and participate in the afternoon activities in Central Park.

A banquet will be held Saturday evening at St. Mark's Activity Center.

Class of 1959

Members of Marion High School class of 1959 will celebrate their 45th class reunion during Old Settlers' Day weekend.

A steak supper will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at the home of Mick Summervill.

The group will enjoy breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Keith Conyers home prior to boarding the float for the annual parade. Participants are reminded to bring candy for the parade.

Reservations are due by Sept. 1 to Donna Hayen, 202 Meadow Lane, Marion.

Class of 1964

Marion High School class of 1964 will celebrate their 40th class reunion.

The class will watch the Marion High School Warriors play Lyons at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at Warrior Stadium. Marion Country Club will be open for visiting following the game.

The group will meet in the back room of Stone City Café at 9 a.m. Sept. 25 for breakfast, rolls, or coffee, then walk to Jex Addition to board the float for the annual parade.

Class members are asked to wear their 1964 T-shirts or red or blue T-shirts.

Following the parade, class members will enjoy lunch in Central Park and participate in the afternoon program.

The evening get-together will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. at Butch's Diner in Tampa, with Marvin and Maggie Meisinger as hosts. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

The evening will be spent visiting, remembering past events, and enjoying photos from school days as well as new family pictures and events.

Class of 1969

Members of the class of 1969 are invited to participate in the OSD golf tournament at 1 p.m. Sept. 24 at Marion Country Club. A community social hour will begin at 5 p.m. followed by a steak dinner.

The class is invited to attend the MHS-Lyons football game at Marion Stadium at 7 p.m.

Coffee and rolls will be served at 9 a.m. Sept. 25 at the Costello home.

Class members should congregate at 10:30 a.m. for the 11 a.m. parade. They will participate in the afternoon program in Central Park.

A social hour and dinner will begin at 6 p.m. for class members and their guests at Marion Country Club.

Class of 1974

Class members of the class of 1974 will have their 30th class reunion. Classmates are asked to contact Diana Costello at 620-382-2533 or costello@dtnspeed.net.

Class of 1979

MHS class of 1979 will observe the 25th class reunion during Old Settlers' Day weekend.

The class will be represented Friday afternoon in the OSD golf tournament. Class members are encouraged to attend the MHS football game, then adjourn to Marion Country Club to socialize.

Class members may run in the OSD 5K run at 8 a.m. at Marion County Lake.

The group will gather in Jex Addition at 10:30 a.m. to ride through the parade, then participate in activities in the park.

Beginning at 5 p.m. class members and their guests will enjoy a cookout at Marion County Lake hall. The group will finish out the evening at the country club.

Class of 1984

MHS class of 1984 will observe its 20th class reunion by meeting Friday at the Warrior football game and sitting together as a class.

Class members will meet at 10:15 a.m. Saturday in Jex Addition to ride in the parade.

The group will participate in activities from 2 to 4 p.m. in Central Park. Family members also are invited.

A social hour will begin at 6 p.m. at the American Legion hall in Florence. Dinner will begin at 7 p.m.

A dance will begin at 9 p.m. at the Legion and is open to the public.
