Claudine Hunt

Claudine E. Hunt, 84, died Nov. 24, 2006, at McPherson.

Born Jan. 29, 1922, at Marion, she was the daughter of Claude and Francis (Colstrum) Dixon.

She attended Marion schools, graduating in 1939. She enlisted in the Women's Army Corps, serving from 1943-48. Upon leaving the service, she held the rank of first staff sergeant.

On Sept. 9, 1947, she married Albert Hunt at Yokohomo, Japan.

The couple lived in Marion and managed the former Kaw Theater, Peter Pan Ice Cream store, and leased the former Elgin Restaurant. They later owned and operated the Cozy Café. After selling the restaurant, she worked for Sterling Drug, McPherson, until her retirement.

She was a member of the VFW and American Legion. In 1969, she became the first woman commander of an American Legion post in Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, and brother.

Survivors include two daughters, Frances Hunt of Abilene and Barbara Stultz of McPherson; two sisters, Jean McMahon of Goshen, N.Y., and Patricia Wells of St. George; and a granddaughter.

Her cremains will be inurned at Marion Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.

A memorial fund has been established with The Cedars Resident Relief Fund, McPherson.
