Come out Friday, support U.S. troops

Staff reporter

Local and area residents are asked to show support of wounded soldiers Friday morning as a 1940s locomotive pulling passenger cars with U.S. soldiers comes through and stops at Marion.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., an authentic 1940s steam locomotive will stop on Marion's Main Street for approximately 30 minutes. A reception is planned in the parking lot of Marion Die and Fixture for the 51 soldiers who were wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.

There also will be more than 60 staff members and more than 100 other individuals on the train.

Marion is one of numerous stops the train is making.

State and local dignitaries have been invited to attend this special, once in a lifetime event.

A local color guard with two dozen representatives from Hillsboro also plan to attend.

The local auxiliary plans to line the tracks with 24 yellow ribbons and will distribute small flags for supporters to wave.

Refreshments will be served.
