Commissioner will attend meeting about U.S.-50 improvements years ago

Marion County Commission received an invitation Monday from the mayor of the City of Newton regarding a meeting with Kansas Department of Transportation to discuss future road improvements which include U.S.-50.
Commissioners Bob Hein and Dan Holub determined commissioner Randy Dallke should attend the meeting, if possible, since he already had attended some of the previous meetings with KDOT.
Dallke was not at Monday's meeting but will be notified about the decision. If he is unable to attend, another commissioner will attend the meeting.
In other business:
— County employees, who were being paid less than 88 percent of the median income level for their positions, were given pay increases Monday to bring them to that level of pay.
— An area in the basement that previously was used as the office of the road supervisor, will be converted for now into a meeting room for the economic development office.
— County clerk Carol Maggard informed the commission that the county's share of health insurance premiums for community corrections personnel is $4,794, a slight increase from 2007.
— Commission members plan to attend county government day at the state capitol Feb. 12.
The next commission meeting will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday instead of Monday because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday.
