Communities In Schools donates books to city libraries

Communities in Schools of Marion County has donated the following books to city libraries across the county.

l. "A Framework for Understanding Poverty" by Ruby K. Payne, Ph.D.

Dr. Payne illustrates in simple, straightforward charts and language how poverty impacts learning, work habits, and decision-making.

2. "What Kids Need to Succeed: Proven, Practical Ways to Raise Good Kids" by Peter Benson, Ph.D.; Judy Galbraith, M.A.; and Pamela Espeland.

The book spells out 40 things every young person needs to grow to healthy adulthood. A special Tips for Teens section helps young people shape their own success.

3. "Life Freaks Me Out" by K.L. Hong (a former teen-ager).

This book addresses the turbulent, confusing, and exhilarating situations teens face every day. It offers guidance on the big questions, "Who am I?" and "What am I doing on this planet, anyway?"

4. "Tag, You're It! 50 Easy Ways to Connect with Young People" by Kathleen Kimball-Baker.

5. "I Love You Rituals" by Becky A. Bailey, Ph.D. The book provides rhymes and games that enhance children's social, emotional, and school success.

6. "Story Stretchers for Infants, Toddlers, and Twos" by Shirley Raines, Karen Miller, and Leah Curry-Rood.

The book contains suggestions for using more than 100 children's books and many ideas for s-t-r-e-t-c-h — i-n-g the stories in new ways that enhance learning.

7. "Say Something" by Peggy Moss. Illustrated by Lea Lyon. In a story written for children, this book gives a firsthand account of the problem of bullying.
