Concern appreciated

To the Editor:

I want to thank so many of you for your support during this past difficult week. JoAnn's family is from Greensburg, and her mother and brother and two uncles were still living there.

We have spent the entire week trying to find anything worth salvaging. As we drove into town Monday morning it was with a sense of awe. No pictures could possibly show what it was really like. It was overwhelming.

All of the family is safe, but they were able to save only the clothes on their backs. Our uncle had worked at the drug store for 55 years as a soda jerk. He was getting ready for bed, so he didn't even save his shoes.

I wanted to write to describe a particularly strong emotion I felt while there on Monday. We were digging through the rubble, and I watched as a Marion County Sheriff's car drove by. I was filled with a sense of pride, knowing that our county was represented. I can't tell you how much it meant to our family to know that so many in this city were supporting us and praying for us. Thank you so much.
