Cougars finish one and one

Centre's volleyball team won one and lost one at the triangular held Sept. 28 at Elyria Christian High School.

The first match was with Sunrise Christian High School. Centre lost in three matches, 25-21, 20-25, and 12-25.

Only one of 58 serves failed. Brianne Stahlecker and Kylie Burhoop each aced the ball two times. Jackie Klenda, Alisha Luna, and Jill Fenske provided one ace each.

Luna, a setter, was a perfect 12 for 12, two for a kill. Stahlecker set the ball 41 of 46 attempts.

Klenda, Fenske, and Megan Gutsch provided good front line support, averaging 17 spikes each.

In the match with Elyria, Centre won in two games, 25-19 and 25-14. In the first game, Burhoop, Selena Seifert, and Klenda served for three points each. In game two, Burhoop served for five, Fenske, four, and Klenda, Seifert, and Stahlecker, three each.

Klenda, Burhoop, and Fenske each aced the ball one time.

Jill Fenske led at the net with 16 spikes and five kills. She was followed by Alisha Barney with 12 spikes, three kills, and two blocks.

Stahlecker set the ball 32 of 33 attempts, six for a kill.

At the end of the match, the team's record stood at 8-9.

The junior varsity was defeated by Elyria in two games, 13-25 and 9-25. In game one, they completed eight of 13 serves and in game two, nine of 10.

They defeated Sunrise Christian in two games with identical scores of 25-12.

Scorers in game one were Jessica Deines, five, Amy Hajek, four, Samantha Alvarez, three, and Teaira Turner and Gloria Belton, two each.
