Council approves street project bid

Marion City Council approved a bid of $10,500 for an asphalt overlay on a part of the 700 block of South Roosevelt.

The council made the decision during a special meeting Nov. 13.

The bid, from Shilling Construction Company of Manhattan, the same company that Marion County contracted to overlay Sunflower Road and South Third Street in Marion, was for four-inch asphalt paving on a portion of the block. The city will be responsible for the base.

The council also gave the go-ahead to Shilling to begin road improvements on Country Club Drive and Fairway Drive in Country Club Heights Addition.

Bonds for the Country Club Heights project will be sold Dec. 18.

Property owners on Country Club Drive and Fairway Drive will be assessed appropriately for the improvements.

The construction company had completed work for the county earlier than expected and wanted to begin the city work immediately following approval.
