Counterfeit bill passed at Marion bank

Lt. Dean Keyes of the Marion Police Department advises business owners and the general public to watch for counterfeit paper money following the passing of a $20 counterfeit bill.

"The incident occurred Monday at a Marion bank," Keyes said.

Keyes advises all business owners to use the special marking pen that determines the validity of paper currency on all bills, not just the larger ones, and mark every bill. If a bill is valid, not a counterfeit, the pen leaves a mark on the bill. If the bill is a possible counterfeit, the pen will not leave a mark.

"It was not an obvious counterfeit," Keyes said. He encouraged the public to look for the water mark on the paper money.

Anyone with information or who notices a suspicious bill, should contact the Marion Police Department.
