Country club hosts women's golf tourney

Thirty women from Marion and surrounding communities competed in a women's golf tournament Sept. 14 at Marion Country Club.

The women were paired in 15 teams for the two-flight, nine-hole scramble.

First flight winners were the team of Judy Noller, Marion, and Donna Stubenhofer, Emporia, with a score of 34. Helen Hersh, Halstead, and Cindy Langlois, Wichita, shot 39 to place second. Lisa Hemphill and Marcia Muthart, both of Marion, finished third with a score of 40.

A scorecard tie-breaker system had to be used to determine the order of finish in the second flight, as three teams all finished with a score of 45. Linda Davis and Sheryl Pankratz of Hillsboro were awarded first place, with Sandy Black and Sherri Hess of Marion finishing second and Angie Becker and Mary Granzow of Herington coming in third.

Individual prizes were awarded to Judy Nolller, Marion, longest drive; Sally Hannaford, Marion, closest to the pin; and Diane Bolton, Council Grove, longest putt.

Following the conclusion of the tournament participants enjoyed a social hour and steak dinner.
