LETTERS:   Country club isn't 'elite' years ago

To the Editor:

As one of the "financially elite" members of Marion Country Club, I felt it necessary to respond to Eric Meyer's editorial "Do You Really Care?"

Membership to the country club is less than some people's smoking and drinking habits, less than cable TV subscriptions and less than a monthly cell phone bill.

I do not consider myself "financially elite" because I can spare $45.45 per month for a full golf membership to the Marion Country Club.

I think it is very reasonably priced entertainment for my entire family. A social membership would cost even less.

I am quite proud to be a resident of Marion and a member of the Marion Country Club, and will do anything I can to promote both.

I do care about this town and wish that the Marion County Record could say the same. If it would spend half as much time reporting positive, uplifting stories about the community as it does reporting negative opinions, this entire town would benefit.
