County athletes fill up all-state rosters

It was a full sweep for Marion County this past week.

Each of the five schools in the county had at least one representative on either the boys' or girls' basketball team receive all-state honors from the Topeka Capital-Journal.

Leading the way was senior JuliAnne Chisholm of Hillsboro who was one of the top-five all-class players in the state. She also was named to the 3A all-state first team.

Four other girls from the county were named to their respective all-class, honorable mention teams.

Chisholm's teammate, senior Tina Frick, was tabbed for the 3A team, while senior Jessi Hilliard of Peabody-Burns received the same honor at the 2A level.

Goessel and Centre High Schools each had one player on the 1A honorable mention list. Senior Megan Gutsch was the Cougars' representative, while Bluebird Kory Hiebert represented Goessel.

On the boys' side it was Garrett Hiebert of Goessel who took top honors for the county. The six-foot, three-inch senior was one of five players on the 1A, all-state first-team.

Marion and Hillsboro had the final boys' representatives with a total of three seniors on the 3A honorable mention team.

Lucas Hamm earned the honors for the Trojans, while Warriors Travis and Jason Hett represented Marion.
