County property values show $3 million increase

Staff reporter

Marion County Clerk Carol Maggard announced Monday during the weekly commission meeting that the county's valuation had a $3 million increase.

Completed valuations indicated total property values in the county were $97,671,808, a $3,102,741 increase from the previous year.

A county mill now would be worth $97,700 instead of $94,600.

— Maggard asked if county employees could be given a two percent pay increase per the budgeted amount.

Commission chairman Bob Hein asked if there was sufficient funds for an additional one percent merit raise for a total of a three percent raise.

Maggard said she would research the request for the next meeting.

Previously, pay increases were based on the amount of refunds from Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kansas. Maggard pointed out that this year's refund was three times the amount of last year.

The commission will review the information at the next commission meeting.

— County attorney Susan Robson presented her department's budget needs for 2006. Currently $500 per month is drawn from a diversion fund for employees' salaries. In 2006, Robson recommended the funds be drawn from personal services line item because the diversion fund may not have the necessary funds to cover the costs.

— Betty Richmond of Marion County Soil Conservation District, requested $28,790 from the county for 2006, which is the same amount previously provided.
