County resident dies in U.S.-56 accident years ago
A two-vehicle accident Saturday morning on U.S.-56 claimed the life of a Marion County woman.
Irene J. Tajchman, 66, rural Marion, died when a 1998 Ford pickup truck she was driving was struck by a semi-truck.
The accident occurred at 10:13 a.m. when Tajchman was southbound on Remington Road. According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, Tajchman failed to yield at the stop sign and was struck broadside by a westbound 2000 Freightliner semi-truck.
The driver of the semi-truck, Steven E. Oroke, 33, Cottonwood Falls, was taken by ambulance to St. Luke Hospital where he was treated and released.
This is the second fatality accident in less than a month on U.S.-56 in Marion County.
