County road resealing project unveiled

Fifty-two miles of county roads are slated to be re-sealed this summer.

County public works director Jim Herzet presented a list of the roads Monday to Marion County Commission and informed the governing body that the cost will be $420,000.

The cost included 235,000 gallons of sealing oil at a cost of $320,000, and 6,800 tons of rock at $100,000, Herzet said.

Roads to be re-sealed include 290th (formerly West Durham Road), four miles; Timber (formerly Electric City Road), five miles, will be sealed twice; 140th (formerly Wheeler Road), three miles; 340th (formerly Lost Springs Road), seven miles; 40th (formerly Peabody-Burns Road), five-and-one-half miles; Quail Creek near Ramona, five miles; Remington (formerly Pilsen Road), nine miles; 30th (formerly East Walton Road), three miles; 60th (formerly Watchhorn Road), five miles; and Timber to Eisenhower, one-half mile.

Commission chairman Randy Dallke said he talked with Marion City Administrator David Mayfield regarding planned street improvements. Dallke said Mayfield was in agreement in sharing mobilization costs. Dallke asked Herzet how soon the county could work on Sunflower Road and Third Street. Herzet said crews would be available whenever needed. He continued that he would like to see the City of Marion replace sewer lines prior to the street repair project.
