County valuations increase by $3 million

Marion County Commission met Tuesday and followed a brief agenda.

County clerk Carol Maggard reported an increase in valuations from November 2003 through July 2004. Reported valuations in July were $94,435,421, an increase of $2,973,102.

Increases were noted in real, oil and gas, and personal properties.

Maggard reported Chimney Specialists had completed chimney repair work on the courthouse.

While completing the work, chimney repair employees noted areas on the courthouse that were a part of the restoration project that were not completed properly. Maggard contacted engineer Dan Hall who will contact the contractor and have the areas completed as proposed and paid.

Maggard also reported a gas pipe to the courthouse had been repaired.

The commission approved a road crossing permit from Moundridge Telephone at 120th and Diamond.

Agreements were approved between Marion County Health Department and county school districts for nursing consultations. The agreements were for Centre, Peabody-Burns, and Goessel school districts, and Oasis program.

An agreement with Marion County Special Education Cooperative also was approved. The agreement will permit the county to continue to provide free hearing, vision, and scoliosis screenings.

Deidre Serene, county health administrator, presented a proposal for the department's 2005 budget. The line items were the same with exception of personnel which was less and capital outlay which included funds for future roof repairs or replacement.

A four percent pay raise also was included in the proposal.

Serene reported funds for a bio-terrorism grant need to be spent by the end of August.

Maggard presented a letter from county attorney Susan Robson regarding a letter to Rails to Trails group regarding insurance verification and other issues.

The commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday in the courthouse.
