Crash closes two highways for a day

Two semi tractor-trailers crashed head-on at 1 a.m. Monday morning on U.S.-50, six miles west of Strong City.

Both semis burst into flames upon contact, killing both drivers, and strewing debris on both lanes of traffic.

Kansas Department of Transportation closed both eastbound and westbound lanes on U.S.-50 between Strong City and K-150 due to the crash.

KDOT also closed K-150 from U.S.56/77 to U.S.-50.

John M. Terry, 42, Dundalk, Ontario, Canada, was eastbound on U.S.-50 at mile marker 322 in a 2005 Freightliner when it crossed the center line and struck a westbound 2001 Freightliner driven by Anthony Ray Bosma, 44, Bigelow, Minn. It is not known why the Terry vehicle crossed the line.

The roads were reopened at 5 p.m. Monday.
