Credit cards approved for county departments

Marion County Commission signed a purchasing card agreement Monday with UMB of Wichita.

County-issued credit cards will be available to the county departments with each department being responsible for providing vouchers with credit card statements.

The balance of the card account will be paid in full each month with no service charges anticipated. The charge account primarily will be used for lodging and meals, county clerk Carol Maggard said. Road and bridge also will use it when purchasing items from the Internet.

Cards will be surrendered by those employees who do not follow the rules and could lead to termination if used inappropriately.

Currently the sheriff's department uses a department credit card and Maggard asked if they then would have two cards. Commissioner Bob Hein said he would like to see the sheriff's department use the same card and follow the same policy as the other county departments. Commissioners Dan Holub and Randy Dallke agreed.

In other business:

— John Stein and Jessica Mounts, representatives of Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, expressed their concerns about the changing of personnel at Marion County Park and Lake.

Quarterly reports, financial support, and fishery populations were among the discussion items. The commission informed the representatives that interviews for a lake superintendent had been conducted with a decision soon to be made.

Stein expressed concerns about the upcoming lake cleanup on Saturday and fish habitat. He does not want any trees that are in the water to be removed or brush along the shoreline. If the trees are not dead, Stein said the branches would make good silt when there are heavy rains.

— The commission entered a 30-minute executive session to discuss the lake superintendent position.

The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

The next commission meeting is at 9 a.m. Monday in the courthouse.
