CVL 12-and-under takes third at state years ago

The CVL 12- and under All-Star team took third place this past weekend in the Cal Ripken State Baseball Tournament in Lyons.

CVL started off the tournament with a 15-1 victory against Haysville.

Dylan Seacat was the starting pitcher and Bret Voth came in for the save.

Seacat was the game MVP for his pitching performance and for going 2-3 from the plate.

Grif Case was 2-2 including a home run.

Austin Pedersen also homered and picked up the WOW award for the game.

In game two CVL faced a tough team from Osawatomie.

The two teams battled back and forth and CVL trailed 8-7 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.

Back-to-back singles by Zach Robson and Zac Lewman eventually resulted in runners on second and third with Taylor Heidebrecht at the plate.

Heidebrecht ripped a double to the fence scoring both runners and giving CVL a 9-8 victory.

Jake Harper was 3-3 from the plate in the victory.

Heidebrecht picked up the MVP for with Dylan Seacat winning the WOW award.

Game three pitted the CVL against longtime foe, and two-time state champion Lyons.

The two teams have had a long history of great games and this one did not disappoint.

After Lyons jumped out to a 4-1 lead, CVL came back with a barrage of hits including four home runs. Harper homered in the second inning while Seacat and Case each homered in the third.

Lyons held a slim 6-5 lead going into the final inning.

Case led off the top of the sixth with his second homer of the game to tie the score.

However, the tough Lyons team came back to score in the bottom of the inning and ended the game with a 7-6 victory.

Case was named MVP, after going 3-3 from the plate. Seacat also went 3-3 from the plate and won the WOW award.

Game four was a re-match with Osawatomie with the winner going to the state championship game.

The CVL bats went silent for the first time in the tournament and Osawatomie came away with a 6-1 victory leaving CVL with the third-place plaque.

Troy Higgs was the MVP while Zach Robson won the WOW award.
