CVL All-Stars win district tournament

The 12-and-under CVL All-Stars won the District 4 tournament this weekend in Peabody.

The CVL team dropped the first game to a scrappy Council Grove team, 9-6, and found themselves in the losers bracket.

They responded by thumping their next three opponents by a combined score of 44-1. They defeated Newton 23-0, Moundridge, 10-1, and Lyons 11-0.

This set the CVL team up for a rematch with Council Grove Saturday evening. The boys came out swinging the bats and beat Council Grove 14-7.

Because of the double-elimination format, the two teams came back Sunday evening to play again. The championship game was exciting and the CVL team came out on top, 8-6, claiming the District 4 title.

Because the CVL All-Stars are the host team in this week's state tournament in Marion, they have an automatic berth. Council Grove will represent District 4 as runner-up in the district tournament.

The CVL All-Stars play their first game at 7 p.m. Thursday against District 2 champions, Cimarron River Valley.
