Day-care options discussed at meeting

A meeting with all local day-care providers is planned for Nov. 8.

Jami Williams, Marion Chamber of Commerce president, said Friday during a monthly luncheon that there was some incorrect information being said about a community day-care center and its purpose.

She said the intent of creating a community day-care facility was to compliment and support in-home day-care, and to offer another alternative for parents and their children.

An ongoing shortage of day-care providers has led the chamber and the City of Marion to consider a community-supported day-care center that could provide child care when in-home providers are at capacity, go on vacation, or are ill.

In other chamber business:

— Alex Case, Jr. reported that in order to create a hiking or biking trail on the former railroad bed, permission must be obtained from the Central Kansas Conservancy.

A meeting is planned with the agency to obtain a lease to use the property. A non-profit organization will need to act as custodian of the agreement, Case said.

— Mayfield distributed sample packets for members to review regarding the building incentives program.

— A membership plaque was presented to Erika Jo Larson, owner of Movement Connection dance studio.

— Committee reports included: Roger Hannaford III reported the annual Farm-City Steak Fry will be Nov. 2; flags are in "great shape;" baskets are being given to new residents; business activities are being planned for the day after Thanksgiving; trick-or-treat at businesses will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday; and the next project for the sign committee will be signs in the city to direct visitors to the ball fields, hospital, etc.

— It was reported there was no booth at the Kansas State Fair this past year because of the booth price and ineffectiveness of having the booth.
