Deputy OK after two-car collision

A deputy with Marion County Sheriff's Office was involved in a two-car collision Friday morning at U.S.-56 and Eisenhower Drive/Timber Road.

At 9:39 a.m., Rollin K. Schmidt, 51, Goessel, was driving a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria owned by the sheriff's department, when it was struck from the rear by a 1998 Plymouth Neon driven by Kaylene Renee Churchill, 19, Great Bend.

Schmidt was westbound on U.S.-56 and attempted a left turn to Eisenhower Drive when the second vehicle struck him.

Schmidt was transported by ambulance to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, and Churchill to Hillsboro Community Medical Center, Hillsboro. Both were treated and released.
