Developer position on city agenda for Monday s meeting

Staff reporter

Discussion of a city economic development position will be on the agenda for Monday's Marion City Commission meeting.

Mayor Martin Tice told commissioners he had requested it be placed on the agenda for consideration.

In other business:

— City crews have sprayed mosquito repellent four times in the past week.

Harvey Sanders, public utilities superintendent, reported the first few times the city sprayed, rain water washed away the chemical.

Sanders noted crews were having a difficult time reaching some areas in the valley near the dike due to "downed" trees and branches caused by this past winter's ice storm. The Cottonwood Valley Drainage Board is responsible for removal along the dike, he added.

— The commission approved five transfers of funds from one account to another — $24,533 from electric to bond and interest for water bond payment; $2,587 from electric to bond and interest for street bond payment; $5,032 from water to bond and interest for water/sewer bond payment; $9,594 from general to bond and interest for industrial park bond payment; and $72,500 from electric to general for operating expenses.

— The May investment and collateral report, and financial statement were approved.

— Warrants for $38,110 were approved.

— A come-and-go retirement reception for city employee Dale Johnson will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday in the commission room. Johnson is the city's cemetery sexton. Sanders reported he was in the process of finding a replacement.
