Dick Barber

Richard L. "Dick" Barber, 71, of Marion, died Nov. 21, 2005.

Born Oct. 3, 1934, at McPherson, he was the son of James A. and Mary I. (Storm) Barber.

He grew up and attended school in McPherson, later graduating from McPherson High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served for four years.

He was a postal worker for several years, as well as an accomplished construction worker.

On Dec. 31, 1970, he married Frances Miller at Denver, Colo. He worked for the school district in Adams County, Colo., for a short time. He and Frances also were property managers for apartment complexes and storage facilities in Denver, Colo., and later, Baltimore, Md. They moved to Marion in 2001.

He was a member of Marion Christian Church and attended evening worship services at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Frances of Marion; stepson, Chuck Miller of Marion; brother, Ken Barber of Denver, Colo.; sister, Jeannine Mathews of Onalaska, Wis.; three nephews; and one niece.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Marion Christian Church with the Rev. Carl Helm officiating.

Musical selections included "Nearer My God to Thee," and "The Lord's Prayer."

Vocalist was Greg Carlson. Organist was Donna Hayen.

Burial will be at a later date.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
