Dick McLinden participates in Young Eagles flight program

Dick McLinden, local pilot, recently participated in a Young Eagles program at the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association, Inc.) Aviation Center in Oshkosh, Wis.

McLinden was among thousands of pilots around the world who donated their time and aircraft to the program and have given more than 100 young people a free demonstration airplane ride, introducing a new generation to the world of flight.

Pilots explained the safe operation of airplanes and principles of flight before the short trips. Participants received a certificate signed by the pilot after the flight, making them official Young Eagles.

The program began in July 1992, and has now flown more than one million children between the ages of eight and 17. The program's goal is to allow young people to experience positive activities and discover the possibilities available to them within the world of aviation.

The names of the pilots and participants are included in the "World's Largest Logbook," which is on display in the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh, and online at www.youngeagles.org.
