Display flags Tuesday for Patriots Day

Residents of Marion County and across the nation are encouraged to fly their flags Tuesday in observance of Patriot's Day, 9/11.

An American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the U.S. Tuesday, to honor those who lost their lives six years ago.

In the days, weeks, and months following Sept. 11, 2001, residents joined together as a sign of solidarity by displaying their flags. Since that time, some residents continue to fly Old Glory but many do not.

If flags are displayed other than by being flown from a staff, it should be displayed flat. When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the stars should be in the left upper corner of the observer..

When displayed in a window it should be displayed in the same way with the blue field to the left of the observer on the street.
