Dorothy Nice

Dorothy Lillian Nice, 91, of Marion, died Jan. 13, 2006.

Born Jan. 30, 1914, at the family home near Hennessey in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Arthur and Dollie (Throne) Smith.

On Feb. 19, 1933, she married Willard Nice. The couple lived southwest of Kingfisher, Okla. They later purchased a farm northwest of Kingfisher where they lived and raised their family until 1958. They sold the farm and relocated to a farm east of Marion.

She began work at Cedar Rest Nursing Home near Marion. In 1962, she was hired as administrator of Valley View Nursing Home at Lawrence. In 1976, she and Willard retired to Marion.

Dorothy cared for Willard during his declining health, until his death in 1996. She then lived with her daughter, Norma, for two years, before moving to St. Luke Living Center in 1998.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard Nice; daughter, Carol Helmer; grandson, Alan Kline; sister, Ruby Blake; and four brothers, Ray, Claude, Harold, and Roland.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Wilfred and Wilma Nice of Marion; daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Jerry Kline of Marion; sister, Mildred Toepfer of Crescent, Okla.; brother, Glenn Smith of Kimball, Neb.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion. Burial was in Marion Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the church.
