Downtown business plans move to industrial park

Arlie's Body Shop of Marion is expanding to Marion Industrial Park.

Following a 20-minute executive session Monday evening for trade secrets between Marion City Council and city economic development director Jami Williams and city administrator David Mayfield, the council approved a lease-purchase deal and some perks for the development owner Arlie Overton.

The metal building will be constructed north of the Cardie Oil Company tire business. The city will finance $254,519 for the building. The city also will give Overton the lot, 20-foot culvert, sewer and water taps, and will not charge building permit fees.

Local banks will be contacted for interest rates for the lease-purchase contract.

In other business:

— A discrepancy between the billing of water at Marion County Lake will be addressed with Marion County Improvement District board member Dan Crumrine. The city assumes a water meter malfunctioned.

— The council accepted the resignation of Tina Groening from Marion County Economic Development Council.

— Rose Mary Saunders of Ranson Financial Advisers was appointed as administrator of the city's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) as required in the application process.

— A payment of $19,208 was approved to Hett Construction for the next phase of a lease-purchase building for Cardie Oil Company at the city's industrial park.

— The annexation of property owned by Jerry Dieter was approved. The property is located on South Coble Street and will be used for a housing development.

The next regular council meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at the city building.
