Drugs found at lake

Between 3:46 and 6 a.m. April 16, Marion County Sheriff's Office investigated a residence at Marion County Lake after a citizen's complaint. During the investigation, a drug search warrant was obtained and executed at #12 Rock Road. Marijuana and drug paraphernalia was found at the residence. Both renters of the property were arrested, reports Sergeant Jeff Soyez. Value of marijuana and drug paraphernalia was $105.

An individual was stopped by Deputy Larry Starkey for driving 80 mph in a 65-mph zone at 7:15 p.m. April 17 on U.S.-56/77 at mile marker 313. The driver had a suspended license and was cited for speeding and arrested for driving while license suspended.

At 11:50 p.m. April 21, a driver was stopped by Undersheriff Randal Brazil on U.S.-56/77 at milepost 307 for failure to maintain a single lane of traffic. The driver failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence, transporting an open container of alcohol, and refusal to take preliminary breath test.

Vernon Bartel called MCSO Saturday to report a missing red bull calf. Bartel stated Van Peters brought nine calves, unloading them Wednesday. Bartel noticed the animal missing Thursday. The calf weighs approximately 500 pounds and has no brand or other identifying marks, reports Sergeant Jeff Soyez.

Jason Guhr called MCSO Monday to report lost or strayed cattle from 1111 North Falcon. One calf is a black bull and one a black heifer. Both weigh 650 to 700 pounds with no brand or identifying marks, reports Sergeant Soyez.

At 6:18 p.m. April 15 Ron Davis' boat capsized at Marion Reservoir because of high winds and rough water. The boat was a 14-foot fishing vessel. The boat was headed east on the reservoir toward the dam when Davis began having problems. He attempted to turn the boat around when it capsized.

Maurice Widel witnessed the incident and called 911 for assistance. Marion Fire Department, MCSO, Kansas Wildlife and Parks, Marion Ambulance, Marion Rescue, and Marion County Corps of Engineers responded. Davis was in the water, afloat with a life jacket for approximately 20 minutes. Marvin Peterson, Wildlife and Parks officer, was the coxswain of the rescue boat. Deputy Josh Whitwell and Corps of Engineer officer Neal Whitaker were the crew who rescued Davis from 50-degree water.
