ED director reports activities

Marion Economic Development Director Jami Williams presented the following written report Monday to Marion City Council.

Williams reported:

— she had received numerous calls regarding the closing of the wellness center with various options being explored.

— she attended the annual Marion Chamber of Commerce Dinner and heard Paul Morrison speak.

— attended an energy conference sponsored by USDA Rural Development in Manhattan.

— spoke to a local man about the possibility of wind farms in Marion County and shared information from the energy conference.

— attended an organizational meeting of Marion County Performing Arts Group to organize community plays and other fine arts performances. A variety night is planned for April 14. Auditions will be reviewed until March 15 with participants submitting video tapes of their performances.

— attended a staff meeting at Marion Elementary School to discuss the Safe Routes to School Program.

— met with a local business about an expansion. Information was provided regarding neighborhood revitalization and city business grants. Williams attended an informational meeting Tuesday regarding other funding options.

— met with a Marion County resident and assisted with a business plan for a possible new business in Marion.

— presented a customer service training course to 25 employees of St. Luke Hospital.

— was notified that Marion was still in the running for a SRS call center.

— she and Margo Yates visited the Marion County Poor Farm to determine whether it could be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
