Eddie Klose

Eddie Klose, 80, died Jan. 13, 2005, at St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

Born Oct. 13, 1924, at Ramona, he was the son of Henry and Suzie (Berg) Klose.

He attended Ramona schools and graduated from Ramona High School in 1943, where he excelled in athletics.

His father died when he was 11 years old and his mother when he was 16, so he lived with his brother and wife, Hank and Lenora.

After high school graduation, he enlisted in the Navy. He served during World War II and upon his discharge, returned to live in Marion.

On Nov. 30, 1947, he married LaVaughn Christensen at her parents' home near Marion.

He retired from the Marion County Road Department in January 1987, after 26 years of service. He enjoyed all sports, but particularly enjoyed playing softball and baseball. He also was an avid fisherman.

He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Terry; two brothers, Harry and Henry; a sister, Rosalene; and a granddaughter, Rhonda.

Survivors include his wife, LaVaughn of Marion; a daughter and husband, Janel and Tom of Newton; a son and wife, Michael and Donna Klose of Hillsboro; a brother, Albert of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Marion, with Pastor Alan Stahlecker officiating.

Special music was provided by Michael Klose. Rose Davidson was organist.

Casket bearers were Richard Johnson, Brad Elliott, Gary Klose, Harlow Warneke, Ray Koegeboehn, and Gary Grentz.

Honorary casket bearers were Bill Janzen, Jack Helmer, Ezra Helmer, Dick Bredemeier, and Jim Cather.

Burial was in Marion Cemetery with full military honors.
