Edward Seaman

Edward Seaman, 83, died Jan. 23, 2008, at Rapid City Regional Hospital, Rapid City, S.D.

Ed was born March 7, 1924, in Onida, S.D., to Phillip and Clara (Ruckle) Seaman.

He attended Onida Country School and graduated from Onida High School. He spent one year attending Prairie Bible Institute in 1946.

Ed married Lois Ontjes on March 6, 1948, at Emery, S.D., and to this union nine children were born. Ed and his family continued to live at Onida, S.D. Lois died in 1976.

He married Gail M. Vetter on August 12, 1978, at Onida, S.D., and they soon moved to Kansas, which became their home for 17 years.

Ed was a farmer, ASCS office clerk, a pilot carrying mail, manager of the Sexauer elevator, owner of a trucking company for several years, and custodian and bus driver for Marion-Florence USD 408 for the last 12 years of his working career.

In 1995, Ed and Gail moved to Custer, S.D., then moved to Rapid City in 1999.

He took some adult education classes in welding and woodworking and loved working in his shop making things. Ed always enjoyed spending time with his children, attending Bible studies, rodeos, traveling, and baseball.

He attended Bible Fellowship Church. One of Ed's greatest accomplishments was the Sunday school he started at Gettysburg, that is now the Grace Bible Church.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Seaman of Rapid City, S.D.; two daughters; Jolene Depew and husband Doug of Navarre, Fla., and Janel Fye and husband Larry of Black Hawk, S.D.; six sons, Jerry Seaman and wife Wilma of Huron, S.D., James Seaman of Ft Pierre, S.D., Jay Seaman and wife Linda of Grannis, Ark., Judson Seaman of Rapid City, S.D., Jarvis Seaman and wife Mary Lou of Valley Center, and Julian Seaman and wife Roberta of Emporia; four brothers, Millard Seaman and wife Carole of Rapid City, S.D., Leonard Seaman of Spearfish, S.D., Maynard Seaman and wife Dorothy and Richard Seaman and wife Rosie, all of Nemo, S.D.; one sister, Claribel Stahl and husband Timothy of Albion, Neb.; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Lois; one son, Jonathan Seaman; his parents; a niece, Betty Motley; and a nephew Timothy Seaman.

Visitation was from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City and one hour before services.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday at the Bible Fellowship Church in Rapid City with Pastor Dick Nickel and Pastor Tim Stahl officiating.

Burial was in Pine Lawn Memorial Park at Rapid City.

A memorial has been established to the Mission Aviation Fellowship, PO Box 47, Nampa ID 83653.
