Eight graduate from Leadership Marion County

Leadership Marion County celebrated 16 years of classes by graduating another eight class members from Marion County Monday evening at the Peabody Elementary School.

Marion County Commission, Marion County Economic Development Council, and Leadership Marion County board of trustees hosted the ceremony.

The Rev. Mark Moore, pastor of the United Methodist churches at Florence and Aulne, was the keynote speaker for the evening. His message was a testimony to how the class has impacted his life, and the importance of empowering people with leadership development.

"The quality of life in any sector of society will not rise above the quality of leadership," said Moore. "Therefore it is imperative that we do all that we can to empower, equip, and expand our base of community leadership," Moore told the audience.

Three members of the 2004 class were selected to join the Leadership Marion County board of trustees. They are Mark Moore, Elise Brunhoeber, and Tina Groening.

This class is the first Leadership Marion County group to have a class project as part of the curriculum. The project is possible by a grant and partnership with the Kansas Health Foundation.

Class participant Ken Parry announced plans for the project during the ceremony. The class will plan and host a day of fun and educational activities the Saturday before Father's Day at Marion Reservoir.

They hope to unite various organizations, service clubs, and city governments to work together in an event that will be a fun and positive experience for all Marion County youth and families. The event is called GO (Great Outdoors) Marion County. To help with this project or for more information, contact one of the 2004 class graduates.
