Eleanor Murphy

Eleanor Gertrude Murphy, 93, of Tampa, died April 6, 2005, at Herington Municipal Hospital.

Born March 3, 1912, on a farm east of Tampa, she was the daughter of John and Susanna Schwartzman. She was the youngest of five children.

On July 18, 1933, she married Francis Murphy. The couple operated a lumberyard in Tampa. He died in 1963.

She worked 14 years as a ward clerk for the Abilene hospital. After her retirement, she continued to be active in the Tampa community and at the age of 66 she trained as an emergency medical technician and served on the Tampa ambulance crew until she was 80.

She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and later Holy Family Parish, where she was active in the altar society and other activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, two sisters, and a stillborn son, Robert James.

Survivors include three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

The rosary was recited Friday evening at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion, with Father Mark Wesely as leader.

A Mass of Resurrection was said Saturday morning at Holy Redeemer Church, Holy Family Parish, Tampa, with Father Mark Wesely as celebrant and Francis Jirak as lector.

Music was provided by the Holy Redeemer Choir with Jeanne Rziha as organist.

Casket bearers were Leroy Schwartzman, Mark Bezdek, John Schwartzman, L.J. Bezdek, Wayne Schwartzman, and Jay Bezdek.

A memorial has been established with the Samantha Sue Murphy College Fund.
