Ella Winter

Ella Winter, 90, of Marion, died Aug. 8, 2005.

Born March 23, 1915, at Hillsboro, she was the daughter of Herman and Caroline (Reiswig) Ebel.

As a young woman she worked candling eggs at Kansas Wholesale Company and at the original Salem Hospital in Hillsboro.

On May 8, 1938, she married Ruben Winter at his home near Aulne. The couple lived in the Tampa area where they farmed. They later moved to the Youngtown community. In 1946, they moved to Marion.

In 1955, she began work at Bown-Corby Elementary School, dispensing milk for the students' milk breaks. She later worked for Marion USD 408 in the school lunch program where she was beloved by many students throughout the years. In 1981, she was recognized for 25 years of service from USD 408.

After her retirement from the school district, she worked at Marion Manor and Marion Senior Center.

She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Marion, and was active in the Dorcas Society. She was a member of Ourslerites EHU and a volunteer at the senior center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben; an infant son; and three sisters, Louise Matz, Hertha Scott, and Laura Wampler.

Survivors include two sons, Earl and Joan Winter of Marion and Victor Winter of Allen; a daughter, Kathy and Terry Silhan of Pilsen; brother, Otto Ebel of Paradise, Calif.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Marion, with Pastor Brett Huebner officiating.

Todd Winter and Meggan Daniel sang "On Eagles' Wings." The congregation hymn was "Our Redeemer Lives." Anita Brookens was organist.

Casket bearers were Shad Winter, Todd Winter, Robert Winter, Frederick Silhan, Geoff Daniel, and Robert Matz.

Honorary casket bearers were Meggan Daniel, Vicki Winter, Tracy Winter, Shawna Winter, and Staci Silhan.

Burial was in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial funds were established with the church or with Marion Senior Center.
