Elsie Winter

Elsie Winter, 85, died Oct. 29, 2004, at Presbyterian Manor, Arkansas City.

Born Dec. 17, 1918, near Peabody, she was the daughter of Lloyd and Velma (Rollings) Converse.

As a child she attended country school and went to work at an early age.

On June 29, 1941, she married Ed Winter at Marion. The couple had two children, Beverly and Richard.

She was employed in the food service business from 1952 until 1989, cooking in Marion schools and restaurants. She and her daughter also operated the B&E Café.

Elsie was a lifelong resident of Marion County until 1994 when she move to Arkansas City following the death of her daughter.

She was a member of Marion Christian Church, Order of Eastern Star, and past member of Rebekah Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ed, in 1987; daughter, Beverly in 1994; her parents; a brother, Max; and an infant sister, Eunice.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Terry Winter of Arkansas City; a sister, Opal Lambert of Peabody; two grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Marion Christian Church with the Rev. Carl Helm officiating.

Vocalist for the service was Greg Carlson. Organist was Donna Hayen.

Casket bearers were Larry Winter, Gary Winter, Harry Winter, Stan May, Jim Bridges, and Randy Kelsey.

Burial was in Marion Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
