Elvis tribute contest kicks off Chingawassa Days

Elvis is going to be in Central Park June 1.

Actually, there will be 20 Elvis Presley impersonators performing during the 11th annual Chingawassa Days festival.

To mark the 30th anniversary of Elvis' death, Aug. 17, 1977, the contest is only one of 100 sanctioned events in the entire world during 2007 where contestants compete for the title of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist.

The winner of the contest in Marion will compete with 99 other contest winners Aug. 17 in Memphis.

The event is sponsored by Elvis Presley Enterprises which has the blessings of the Presley family.

The contest is a search for the Elvis Tribute Artist who is the "best representation of the legacy of Elvis Presley." The grand prize winner will receive the title of "The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist," with official recognition by Elvis Presley Enterprises, a cash prize, and other recognition.

The deadline to enter the competition during Chingawassa Days is April 30. There is an entry fee of $100.
