Emma Smith

Emma Helen Smith, 93, died May 19, 2006, at St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

Born Aug. 10, 1912, on a farm east of Marion, she was the daughter of Miles Ellsworth and Carolina Juliann (Kline) Sampson.

On Aug. 1, 1929, she married Merle Francis Smith at the Chase County Courthouse. He died in 1987.

She was a store clerk, waitress, and Youngtown correspondent for the Marion Record-Review. She operated her own businesses in catering, wallpaper hanging, and real estate. She owned Bygone Treasures Antique Store, located at Main and Lincoln streets, Marion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Albert, Roy, Harvey, and Ernest Sampson; four sisters, Lillie Pearl Fox, Mabel Faye Pringle, Effie May Sherrfius, and Esther Marie Buford; two daughters, Carolina May Chizek and Beatrice Merlene; grandson, Edward Merle Chizek; and great-granddaughter, Nichole Renee Johns.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Eva Smith of Marion; daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Max Kilmer of Lehigh; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and twin great-great-grandchildren on the way.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at Lincolnville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phil Smith officiating.

Burial was in Lincolnville Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
