Enrollment planned for prospective dance studio

A dance studio may soon open in Marion.

Erika Jo Larson of McPherson would like to move her family and her business, Movement Connection, to Marion.

She previously owned and operated a dance studio in Lindsborg but closed because of the condition of the building it occupied.

Larson sees this as an opportunity to open several studios.

"I plan to make Marion my main studio," Larson explained, "with other studios in Inman and Little River."

Children can begin taking dance lessons as young as three years old, said Larson. She also teaches adults.

Students must sign up for a year long class and payments made monthly. If a new student takes the class and finds it's not what he/she wants within 30 days, Larson will allow the student to withdraw.

If a full enrollment of 150 students is obtained, students will be given a 25 percent discount.

"Though our tuition is more expensive than other studios in the Marion area, we offer many amenities that the others may not," said Larson.

Enrollment fees will cover practice materials, technique cassettes, and notes.

Videos also are covered by the enrollment fee.

"When we begin routines, our music and instructions will be sent home," Larson said.

Classes will be taught by Larson. An assistant may lead classes if Larson is absent, but not on a regular basis.

Classes will focus on community involvement.

"We are planning to participate in both Art in the Park and Chingawassa Days," Larson said. She also plans to offer competitive opportunities for all of her students.

Any student who enrolls in Movement Connection is able to receive one-on-one time with Larson to work on advanced education, a solo for a performance, or receive additional assistance.

A recital is planned for the last week of April 2006.

Larson began dancing as a child and has taught for more than 10 years. Before teaching in Lindsborg, she assisted at a studio in McPherson.

Parent orientation is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday, at Marion Chamber of Commerce office, 203 N. Third, Marion.

Open enrollment will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Aug. 19, at the city building. For more information, contact Larson at (620) 245-4742.
