Equipment failure causes power outages

Two electrical outages in 24 hours kept some Marion County residents in the dark but luckily both problems were corrected relatively quickly.

Florence residents were without power from 6 to 9 a.m. Sunday and 5:30 to 7 a.m. Monday.

The power outage affected Marion residents for about an hour Sunday morning from 7 until 8 a.m. and nearly three hours Monday morning from 5:30 to about 8:15 a.m.

Hillsboro fared a little better with being without power Sunday from 7 to about 8:15 a.m. but no outages on Monday.

Peabody residents only experienced two brief outages early Monday morning.

The problem was attributed to equipment failure by Westar Energy.

The Monday morning outage caused poles to catch fire by a sub-station at Florence.
