Eugene Konecny

Eugene Joseph "Gene" Konecny, 79, died Dec. 18, 2007, at Hutchinson Hospital.

Born Sept. 26, 1928, at Schulte, he was the son of Joseph and Leona (Tenbarge) Konecny.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-52.

On Dec. 27, 1952, he married Veronica Vinduska. They made their home in Pilsen.

He was employed by the Rock Island and later Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, and the Fr. Kapaun Council Knights of Columbus where he served as secretary. He also had served as president of Marion County Improvement District No. 3.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gregory Lee; three brothers, Jerome, Joe, and Alfonso; and two sisters, Mary Anne Albert and Norma Green.

Survivors include his wife, Vernie of Pilsen; four daughters, Monica Morgan of Buhler, Jacintha Davis of Festus, Mo., Cerita Munshaw of Pilsen, and Karla Leckliter of El Dorado; brother, Sylvester Konecny of Wellingt; three sisters, Odelia Lucas of Augusta, Rita Behrendt of San Antonio, Texas, and Marcella Meyer of Virginia; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral mass was conducted the morning of Dec. 22 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, Pilsen, with Fr. Hien Nguyen and Fr. Paul Oborny concelebrating the mass. A rosary was recited prior to the mass.

Burial was in Pilsen Cemetery with full military honors.

A memorial fund has been established with the Fr. Kapaun Guild.
